Erlonat

Uses
Erlonat (Erlotinib) is used for pancreatic cancer or non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Its mode of action involves inhibiting the ability of the cancer cells to multiply. The active ingredient in this anti-cancer medication is known as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. After administration, it binds to the tyrosine kinase enzyme and blocks the activation of the epidermal growth factor. As a result of this, the cancer cells are unable to multiply. In some cases, this medicine has been used for lung cancer in patients that have failed to respond to other medicines.

Dosage and Administration
Erlonat (Erlotinib) comes in tablet form, and the medicine content of each tablet is 150mg. Various factors will need to be taken into consideration by your doctor when determining the correct dosage. In some cases, adult patients treating non-small cell lung cancer will be told by their doctor to take 150mg once per day. The tablet is usually administered 1 hour (or more) prior to consuming food or else 2 hours after eating. It is the decision of the doctor providing treatment to determine how long the patient needs to continue taking it.

Side effects
Treatment with Erlonat (Erlotinib) can cause patients to experience side effects, and a list of some examples is given here:

• Acne
• Fatigue
• Weight loss
• Sore bones or muscles
• Dermatological dryness

Your doctor will need to be notified if any side effects occur. Although it is considered to be a less common occurrence, there is a possibility of severe reactions occurring. You must seek medical treatment immediately if you experience pain that affects the eyes, a rapid increase in weight, lung problems which are worse than before, fever, speech difficulties or any other serious side effects that have not been listed here.

Precautions
Skin problems can occur during treatment with this medicine. Your doctor may recommend using special moisturising products to help with this. It is also necessary to protect your skin from the sun if going outdoors, as sunlight can increase the risk of dermatological problems.

Ensure that a pregnancy does not occur during treatment.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Erlonat (Erlotinib) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
