Uses
Foracort 400 Inhaler (Budesonide/Formoterol) works by opening up the airways and reducing inflammation. It is indicated for the prevention of bronchospasms due to asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This medicine combines 2 different ingredients, both of which act in different ways to help protect against asthma. Budesonide is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties and glucocorticoid action. It is known to work by acting on a wide range of different cell types and mediators of inflammation (such as histamine and leukotrienes), many of which are known to contribute to inflammation.
This helps to decrease and prevent inflammation in the respiratory tract. Formoterol is a quick acting beta 2 agonist (also called bronchodilator). It targets the beta 2 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, and stimulates them. As a result of this, the airways are able to widen, and this helps ease breathing difficulties due to asthma or COPD, which generally occur due to the airways becoming narrow. Although this medicine can act quickly to ease breathing, it is not effective for acute asthma attacks and is only used for prevention.
