Uses
Lipex (Simvastatin) is used to lower cholesterol and fat (trigyclerides) in the patient's blood stream. It can effectively lower LDL (low-density protein, a type of bad cholesterol), while simultaneously raising levels of HDL (high-density protein, more commonly referred to as a good cholesterol). This can help to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks, and may also decrease the requirement for surgery in patients at risk from heart problems. The active ingredient in this drug is in a class of medications called statins, and it works by decreasing the build up of cholesterol in the arteries, thereby preventing the blocking of blood flow.
Dosage and Administration
Lipex (Simvastatin) comes as tablets, which are taken orally. It is possible that your doctor will tell you to take it before going to bed, or else with an evening meal. If your doctor tells you to take it more than once per day, it should be taken with meals. However, the exact dosage varies greatly, depending on the patient's medical condition and other factors. Doctors will sometimes tell patients taking it for cardiovascular risk reduction to take 10mg to 20mg once per day. The dosage for other conditions is different. Follow your doctor's instructions, and never exceed the prescribed dose.
