This drug works by blocking a certain enzyme in the liver, which leads to a drop in the amount of LDL (low density lipoprotein, also known as bad cholesterol in the blood. It also increases the amount of good cholesterol (HDL or high density lipoprotein), a type of cholesterol which can help to prevent clogging of the arteries.
