Uses
Zarator (Atorvastatin Calcium) works as an inhibitor to the enzyme that produces cholesterol. It is indicated alongside dietary management and exercise to help lower the risk of strokes, angina, heart attacks and other serious problems in patients who are either suffering from obesity, diabetes, hypertension or any other medical disorders which place them at risk for cardiovascular events. It may even be used to reduce the possibility of requiring surgery.

This medicine is a statin and its mechanism of action involves lowering lipoprotein and cholesterol levels by acting on the HMG-CoA receptor. It reduces the synthesis of cholesterol by directly acting in the liver and triggering an increase in the amount of LDL receptors on the cells present there. This leads to a reduction on LDL (bad cholesterol) production and also allows for more of it to be removed from the blood. Treatment may also increase HDL (good cholesterol) levels, which can be beneficial for the health.

Dosage and Administration
Zarator (Atorvastatin Calcium) tablets contain 10mg of the active ingredient and are taken by mouth. Because the exact reason for which this medicine is used can differ from patient to patient, individual circumstances will need to be closely and carefully considered by your doctor when calculating the correct dosage. In patients with hyperlipidaemia, the doctor will need to assess the required reduction in LDL levels needed when deciding on the most appropriate starting dosage. Side effects
Patients who are taking the statin Zarator (Atorvastatin Calcium) may suffer from side effects, such as:

• Gas
• Headache
• Loose stools
• Digestive discomfort
• Symptoms similar to a cold

Make sure that your doctor is informed of all side effects that occur during treatment. Mild reactions are generally the most common, however rare occurrences of severe reactions have been reported. You must immediately see the doctor if you experience thirst, blurred eyesight, sleepiness, low energy levels, pain in the muscles or any other serious side effects not listed here.

Precautions
