Uses
Melanorm Cream (Hydroquinone) is used to help reduce the colour of the skin in patients with conditions such as melasma, liver spots, age spots, freckles, chloasma and other types of hyperpigmentation. These conditions can occur as a result UVA exposure, contraceptive pills, skin injury or other causes. The objective of treatment with this topical cream is to brighten the areas of skin that have become darkened by affecting the melanin (a pigment) in the skin, thereby inhibiting the process which triggers discolouration.
Dosage and Administration
Careful use of Melanorm Cream (Hydroquinone) is essential for patients treating darkened skin areas, as incorrect use can cause unwanted lightening of the skin. The cream should therefore only be applied to areas of skin that need to be lightened. Before treatment, your doctor or dermatologist will provide you with all of the necessary advice related to treatment, as well as clear instructions on how to apply it. In all cases, the doctor will decide how often the cream needs to be applied, and will also decide on the length of time for which treatment is required to continue.
Side effects
Treatment of the skin with Melanorm Cream (Hydroquinone) might result in some patients noticing side effects, such as mild irritation, stinging or redness affecting the application site. However, in some cases, serious side effects may occur. See your doctor immediately if this happens.
Precautions
This cream can cause the treated skin to become more sensitive to sunlight. Sun exposure should be minimised, and patients should apply sunscreen if going outdoors.
Use of other medicated skincare products should be avoided unless told otherwise by your doctor.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Melanorm Cream (Hydroquinone) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
