Uses
Neo-Mercazole (Carbimazole) is an oral medication prescribed to treat patients suffering from hyperthyroidism. Your doctor may also recommend this medication to be used along with others or for the treatment of other unlisted conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Treatment with Neo-Mercazole (Carbimazole) requires that the patient closely follows their doctor's instructions. Laboratory tests are usually needed in order to diagnose the condition. This medicine comes in the form of 5mg tablets. Adults treating hyperthyroidism are sometimes told by their doctor to take it in 2 to 3 divided doses, either in the morning and evening or else in the morning, early afternoon and nighttime.
The dosage that doctors prescribe for patients at the start of treatment can range from 4 to 12 of the 5mg tablets per day. After the symptoms have been controlled, the doctor may decide to reduce the dosage, and the patient may be told to take 1 to 3 tablets each day.
