Uses
Neotigason (Acitretin) belongs to a class of medicines known as retinoids. This means that it is a form of vitamin A. It is prescribed to treat patients affected by severe psoriasis. This skin condition causes scaly, thick or red skin which occurs as a result of the excess growth of cells and keratinisation. The active ingredient in this medicine helps the skin cells to grow normally, and stops abnormal skin growth. It is normally used when other forms of treatment have not been successful.
Dosage and Administration
Neotigason (Acitretin) comes in the form of capsules, each of which contains 10mg of the active ingredient. Patients treating psoriasis will need to follow the dosage instructions that their doctor gives them. In some cases, adults will be directed by their doctor to take an initial dosage of 25mg to 50mg per day, taken once alongside the main meal. The maintenance dosage also ranges from 25mg to 50mg per day, however, the doctor will decide the correct amount that the patient needs to take.
