Uses
Oflox (Ofloxacin) belongs to a class of medicines called fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It is commonly referred to as a second generation fluoroquinolone. This medication is effective against many different types of bacteria, and as well as being administered in the form of tablets, there are other products such as eye drops and ear drops which contain the same ingredient.
Patients suffering from urinary tract infections, certain sexually transmitted infections, bacterial prostate infections and many other types of infections may be treated with this medicine. This medicine targets the bacteria and inhibits the production of the enzyme that the bacteria need to survive (DNA-gyrase). However, it is worth noting that this medicine will not work for viral infections.
Dosage and Administration
Each Oflox (Ofloxacin) tablet contains 200mg of the active ingredient. Before you can start treatment, it is necessary to visit your doctor for a thorough medical examination. Blood or tissue samples may be necessary to determine whether or not the bacteria that caused your infection can be destroyed using this medicine.
Adult patients treating bronchitis are often directed to take 400mg every 12 hours. Treatment can last for as long as 10 days. Campylobacter gastroenteritis is also treated with the same dose, however, doctors generally tell their patients to take it for 3 days. If this medicine is being taken to treat salmonella enteric fever, a dosage ranging from 200mg to 400mg, taken at 12 hour intervals may be necessary. Treatment usually lasts for 7 to 14 days.
