Uses
Ozole (Fluconazole) is a triazole antifungal medicine and its mechanism of action is interfering with the fungal cell membranes. It has a wide range of medical applications, including the treatment of mucosal, vaginal or systemic candidiasis, cryptococcosis and the prevention of fungal infections in patients with HIV or those who have undergone certain medical procedures. In some cases, it has also been used for tinea pedis (Athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm) and other related conditions.
The active ingredient in this medicine exhibits fungostatic action and is known to inhibit the synthesis of fungal sterols (such as ergosterol). When administered, it prevents the production of ergosterol. As a direct result of the fungus losing its normal sterols, the fungal membranes are seriously damaged and no longer able to function. This results in the contents of the cells leaking, and the fungi being eliminated. Following this, the symptoms of the infection may be treated.
Dosage and Administration
Ozole (Fluconazole) comes in the form of 50mg strength capsules for administration by mouth. The dosage will be carefully calculated by your doctor, who will take into account your own unique individual circumstances before deciding on the correct daily dosage. Treatment of dermatomycoses usually requires a dosage of 50mg once per day (or else 150mg once per week) for a treatment period lasting from 2 to 4 weeks.
However, patients with tinea pedis may be told by their doctor to keep taking it for as long as 6 weeks. Those who are affected by with oropharyngeal candidiasis may be directed by their doctor to take 50mg per day for a period lasting 7 to 14 days. In some cases, the doctor may decide that treatment is needed for a longer period of time. Patients must always closely adhere to the instructions of their doctor.
