Uses
Ozole (Fluconazole) is a single dose oral treatment for vaginal thrush. It has antifungal properties, and works by inhibiting key enzymes that the fungi need to thrive. The active ingredient in this medicine is known medically as an azole antifungal. It functions as a selective inhibitor of a fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme. This enzyme is called 14-a-demethylase and is needed by the fungi to produce a component known as ergosterol, considered vital for its fungal cell membranes.
In the absence of ergosterol, irreparable damage to the cell membranes occurs. This causes the vital components of these cells to leak out, resulting in the destruction of the fungi. Treatment can help to relieve the commonly occurring symptoms of vaginal thrush (such as a white discharge from the vagina, painful sensation during intercourse and itchiness of the vagina), an infection which occurs as a result of a type of yeast known as candida albicans. Doctors may also use it to treat other conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Ozole (Fluconazole) comes as a single 150mg strength capsule for oral administration. Doctors usually tell patients to take it once, with water and at any time of the day. Generally, only a single dose is used when treating vaginal thrush, however you should check with your doctor. Further examination by your doctor may be needed in order to ensure that your infection has fully cleared up. If your condition does not get better, or if it worsens, see your doctor straight away.
