Uses
Permite 5% Cream (Permethrin) is a synthetic anti-parasitic cream that is applied to the skin as a treatment for scabies. It is known as a pyrethrin, and it works by destroying the mites (as well as their eggs) responsible for causing the scabies infection. These mites infest the skin and cause irritation, severe itchiness and redness. In some cases, patients may even develop a secondary infection. Some patients have used this cream to treat crab lice.
Dosage and Administration
Visit your doctor to determine the proper application procedure for Permite 5% Cream (Permethrin) when treating any condition. Adults treating scabies may be instructed to apply a thin layer of this cream to the entire body from the neck down to the feet, including the soles. It should be rubbed in. After allowing the cream to remain on the skin for a period of 8 to 14 hours, it may be washed off. If no improvement occurs after 14 days, you should see your doctor.
Patients affected by crab lice may be told by their doctor to apply the cream to the pubic hair (while taking care to avoid getting it in the vagina or rectum). It should then be left for 10 minutes after which warm water should be added so that it is worked into a lather before completely rinsing it out.
