Uses
Pexep CR (Paroxetine) is widely used in the treatment of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), major depressive disorder and GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). It works by potentiating serotonergic activity. Doctors have also used it to treat patients affected by PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), social anxiety, panic disorder, vasomotor symptoms caused by the menopause (such as hot flashes) and other conditions not mentioned here.
The active ingredient in this antidepressant medication is referred to as an SSRI, which stands for selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. When administered, it is absorbed in the body and acts on the central nervous system, where it selectively inhibits the re-uptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin. This helps to normalise the balance of chemicals and neurotransmitters in the brain which are important for regulating the mood. Relief of symptoms such as depression and sadness may then be possible, and anxiety can also be reduced.
Dosage and Administration
Pexep CR (Paroxetine) controlled release tablets each contain 37.5mg of the main active ingredient. They are administered orally, either with or without food, however, patients should note that the tablets are not to be chewed or crushed, but should be swallowed whole. Your doctor will decide the required dosage. Adults treating depression may be told to start on 25mg per day, which is normally taken in the morning.
The doctor may decide to increase this in 12.5mg increments, however, the maximum dosage that doctors prescribe is 62.5mg per day. Anxiety, panic disorder or any other conditions may need to be treated with a different dosage regimen, and in all cases, patients will have their dosage individualized by the doctor. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage.
