Uses
Proluton Depot (Hydroxyprogesterone) is a synthetic hormone similar to the natural female sex hormone progesterone. It is used in the prevention of spontaneous abortion in women with a history of recurrent miscarriage (habitual abortion). Spontaneous abortion occurs when the body`s levels of progesterone drop below the required level to maintain pregnancy. Therefore hydroxyprogesterone is used to maintain these levels and prevent miscarriage.
Dosage and administration
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
Proluton Depot should be administered by a doctor or nurse through an injection in your local hospital or health clinic. Your health care provider will normally inject you intramuscularly in the first few months every week to prevent abortion, if using this medication for infertility then you may be injected for 3 days once a rise in body temperature is established to help the endometrium get ready to ovulate.

Precautions
Proluton Depot may not suitable for all patients. Do not use Proluton Depot (Hydroxyprogesterone) if you have genital herpes, a liver tumor or any kind of viral infection. If you suffer from diabetes you will need special close monitoring to ensure the treatment does not cause stomach or liver bleeding.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
