Uses
Rebagen (Rebamipide) is a gastro-protective medicine developed to treat peptic ulcers. Its mode of action differs to the anti-secretory medications normally used to treat ulcers. Experts believe that it may work by speeding up the healing of ulcers while at the same time decreasing the rate at which they recur.
This is achieved by boosting the defence in the stomach, causing prostaglandins and glycoproteins to be synthesized, and inhibiting cytokines and other substances. In particular, the stimulation of prostaglandin biosynthesis is believed to mediate its gastroprotective effects. Other conditions it has been studied for include Behcet's disease, presbyacusis (loss of hearing due to aging) as well as disorders not listed here.
Dosage and Administration
Rebagen (Rebamipide) is provided as 100mg strength tablets for oral administration. Follow the dosage schedule provided by your doctor. Usually, adult patients will be directed by their doctor to take 1 tablet 3 times per day (once in the morning, again in the evening and finally at bedtime). If you are treating functional dyspepsia, chronic gastritis, gastrointestinal problems due to NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) or any other conditions, your doctor will decide on how long treatment needs to continue for. It is important that you strictly comply with all instructions with regard to this.
