Different bacterial infections | Amoxicillin, Clavulanic Acid | Synermox |
Uses
Synermox (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) is used for treating many different types of infections, including osteomyelitis (and other infections of the joints or bones), sinusitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis, cellulitis, infections of the ears, lungs, urinary tract, as well as other types of infection in the body.
This drug is a combination of amoxicillin (sometimes spelled amoxycillin), which is a penicillin antibiotic, and clavulanic acid. Certain bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes, which make them resistant to amoxicillin. To combat this, clavulanic acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor) is added, which restores the effectiveness against beta-lactamase producing bacteria, making this medicine effective against bacteria that would otherwise be resistant to amoxicillin.
Dosage and Administration
Synermox (Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid) tablets are taken by mouth. However, all patients must visit their doctor prior to the commencement of treatment, so that the correct dosage required to treat their particular condition can be prescribed. Patients should note that the required dosage can vary depending on the specific condition that requires treatment, and patients should only take the amount prescribed by their doctor. Treatment should not be stopped too early (unless advised to do so by a doctor), as this could result in the infection returning.
