Uses
Tibofem (Tibolone) provides relief from a reduced libido, hot flushes, sweating and other symptoms due to oestrogen deficiency in post menopausal women. Its active ingredient is a type of synthetic steroid hormone which functions as an agonist of the oestrogen receptors, and by copying the action of oestrogen and other sex hormones. This helps to normalize the levels of these hormones, which in turn can alleviate the symptoms of the menopause that commonly occur due to the low levels of oestrogen. Another use of this medicine is the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It can help prevent thinning and weakening of the bones. However, it is generally only used as a second line treatment for this condition.

Dosage and Administration
Tibofem (Tibolone) is provided as 2.5mg strength tablets which are taken by mouth. Swallow it whole with a full glass of water and do not chew it. Generally, doctors will advise patients to take 1 tablet per day. It should be administered at the same time each day. Treatment normally continues for the shortest time needed to treat the symptoms. Your doctor will regularly schedule checkups to review and assess your condition. Make absolutely sure that you attend all medical appointments.

Side effects
Tibofem (Tibolone) could cause:

• Acne
• Dizzy feeling
• Body weight increase
• Abnormal growth of hair
• Soreness affecting the breasts

It is important that your doctor is made aware of any side effects which occur. Other side effects are also possible, some of which may be serious. Go to the doctor immediately if you notice sudden migraine headaches, an increase in blood pressure, jaundice or any other severe side effects that are not listed here.

Precautions
There may be a slightly increased risk of endometrial cancer or breast cancer associated with HRT (hormonal replacement therapy). Discuss all potential risks with your doctor before beginning treatment.

Patients should note that the risk of blood clots or other similar complications may be increased in patients undergoing HRT in comparison to patients not undergoing this form of treatment.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Tibofem (Tibolone) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
