Uses
Tolvasca-15 (Tolvaptan) is a vasopressin receptor antagonist which works by regulating the sodium and water levels in the body. It achieves this by reducing the level of the hormone responsible for controlling the balance of water and sodium in the body. Excessively high levels of this hormone may lead to fluid retention and low levels of sodium. Patients suffering from hyponatraemia (low sodium blood levels) caused by heart failure, disease of the liver or an imbalance of hormones are often prescribed this drug to treat their condition.

Dosage and Administration
You must see your doctor for a medical consultation before you can take Tolvasca-15 (Tolvaptan). After examining you, your doctor will determine the correct and safe dosage required. It may be necessary to start treatment in a hospital. Adult patients treating hyponatraemia are sometimes prescribed an initial dose of 15mg taken once per day (with or without food). After at least 24 hours, the prescribing doctor may direct the patient to take 30mg once per day. The maximum prescribed dosage is usually 60mg per day. Your doctor will monitor your condition carefully at the beginning of treatment, and when your dosage is being adjusted. You may also be instructed to avoid fluid restriction during the initial 24 hours of treatment.

Side effects
You are advised to discuss the risks of side effects with your doctor before commencing treatment with Tolvasca-15 (Tolvaptan) tablets. Possible reactions include:

• Thirst
• Dry skin
• Appetite loss
• Frequent urination
• Dryness in the mouth

During the course of treatment, it is strongly recommended that you inform your doctor of any side effects which occur. If you notice seizures, changes in mood, speech problems, problems controlling your muscles or difficulty moving you limbs, this could be a sign that your hyponatraemia is being treated to quickly. See your doctor straight away if this occurs. Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you notice fainting, bloody stools, coughing up blood or any other severe reactions.

Precautions
If you suffer from or have a history of diseases affecting the liver, diabetes or anuria, it is essential that you disclose this to your doctor before commencing treatment.

An increase in blood sugar levels may occur after taking this drug. Diabetic patients must regularly check their blood sugar levels, and may also need to have the dosage of their diabetes medication adjusted.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Tolvasca-15 (Tolvaptan) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
