Uses
Voltaren Rapid (Diclofenac Potassium) is an analgesic (pain relieving) medicine used to relieve acute pain affecting the muscles and back. It may also be used for relieving some symptoms of migraine headaches, as well as period pain and dental pain. Some patients have also take it for dental pain, injuries or strains and arthritis. The main active ingredient in this medicine is derived from benzene-acetic acid and is classified as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
It works by inhibiting COX (cyclo-oxygenase) activity so as to block the synthesis of prostaglandins (lipid compounds in the body which function as mediators of pain and are often released by the body as part of its response to injury or illness). This helps to effectively decrease pain and inflammation.
Dosage and Administration
Voltaren Rapid (Diclofenac Potassium) tablets each contain 25mg of the active component. The correct dosage will vary depending on individual circumstances, and your doctor will decide the right amount. Adult patients taking it for general pain relief may be told to administer 2 tablets as an initial dosage, followed by 1 to 2 tablets every 8 hours. However, doctors generally tell patients that no more than 8 tablets should be taken in any 24 hours under any circumstances. Some doctors may even recommend a lower dose, and for this reason, it is necessary to check with your doctor before taking this medicine and to only take the dosage that your doctor tells you to take.
