Uses
Zantac Relief (Ranitidine Hydrochloride) is used to provide relief from acid indigestion and heartburn. It belongs to a class of drugs known as histamine 2 blockers, and its mode of action involves reducing the stomach's production of acid. If the body produces too much stomach acid, pain and other indigestion symptoms may occur. In addition to this, acid flowing backwards into the oesophagus can cause heartburn. When taken, this medicine decreases the amount of acid produced by the stomach, thereby helping to provide relief from heartburn and indigestion.

Dosage and Administration
Zantac Relief (Ranitidine Hydrochloride) is administered orally. The required dosage will vary depending on what the medicine is being used to treat, and your doctor will tell you how much to take. It is common for patients to be directed to administer 150mg twice per day. Your doctor may tell you to take this medicine 30 to 60 minutes before you eat foods or drink beverages that may cause heartburn. Side effects
Zantac Relief (Ranitidine Hydrochloride) may cause:

• Insomnia
• Vomiting or nausea
• Severe headaches
• Reduced sexual function
• Swelling or tenderness of the breasts in male patients

In the unlikely event that serious side effects are experienced, medical attention should be sought straight away. Examples of a severe reaction include vision problems, fever, peeling or blistering of the skin, appetite loss and severe nausea. Other side effects which have not been listed here may also occur.

Precautions
It is necessary to inform your doctor prior to taking this medication if you suffer from or have ever suffered from phenylketonuria, porphyria or disease affecting the organs.

In most cases, patients will be told by their doctor not to take this drug for longer than 2 weeks.
