Uses
Zentel (Albendazole) is an anthelmintic (anti-worm) drug that is used as a treatment for certain tapeworm infections (such as neurocysticercosis), as well as other infections caused by parasitic worms. This medicine works by preventing the growth of newly hatched worms in the body and killing the worms responsible for the infection. Other used include treating giardiasis, liver fluke, microspordiosis and other conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Zentel (Albendazole) tablets contain 400mg of the active ingredient. This medicine can treat a wide range of infections, and because of this, the dosage required can differ for each individual. In all cases, a medical assessment is necessary to determine the required dose. Adults treating neurocysticercosis caused by tapeworm are sometimes told to take 400mg twice per day, together with a meal. The prescribing doctor will determine the length of time for which treatment is required. The treatment period can range from 8 to 30 days.
Patients affected by ascariasis and trichostrongylosis may be told by their doctor to take a single 400mg dose. It is possible that adult patients who are undergoing treatment for giardiasis will be instructed to take 400mg by mouth, once per day, with treatment lasting for a period of 5 days. Other conditions may require different dosage regimens, and in all cases patients must only take the amount prescribed by their doctor.
