Uses
Zipsydon (Ziprasidone) treats schizophrenia symptoms and can also relive acute mania in patients with bipolar disorder by affecting dopamine and serotonin. The active ingredient in this medicine is known as a second generation atypical antipsychotic. Medical trials showed that it can effectively ameliorate negative and positive schizophrenia symptoms, resulting in reduced agitation and an increased desire to partake in everyday living.
Although doctors are not fully sure of how it works for schizophrenia, it has been hypothesized by experts that its mechanism of action may be due to its combined ability to cause the antagonism of dopamine and serotonin, which are neurotransmitters in the brain believed to play an important role in the regulation of mood and emotions.
It can help to block the reuptake of these neurotransmitters, which may help to restore the natural mental balance. Doctors have also used it as a monotherapy for treating mixed or manic episodes, or in combination with lithium as a maintenance treatment. Other conditions for which its effects have been studied include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and aggressive behaviour.
Dosage and Administration
Zipsydon (Ziprasidone) comes in capsule form, each of which contains 40mg of the active ingredient. The dosage will be different for each patient, depending on factors such as the condition that needs treatment and the patient's medical history. Adult patients are sometimes instructed to administer 20mg twice per day. However, changes to the dosage regimen may be made by the doctor, and the daily dosage may be increased.
Generally speaking, the medicine is taken alongside food so as to aid proper absorption. Patients who are treating acute mixed or manic episodes of bipolar disorder or any other conditions may be told to take a different dosage regimen. Always follow your doctor's instructions.
