Uses
Aminophylline (Aminophylline) is used for asthma, emphysema and other diseases affecting breathing and the lungs. It works by dilating the airways and helping to prevent them from reacting to substances that can cause tightening. The main ingredient in this medicine is formed by 2 different components.
Theophylline (which is categorized as a bronchodilator) acts by blocking phosphodiesterase isozymes, so as to cause the smooth muscles in the airways to relax and open up, thereby improving the passage of air in and out of the lungs. Another compound known as ethylenediamine is added to the medicine, so as to enhance the solubility of the other ingredient.
Regular treatment in accordance with the doctor's instructions can help to make the lungs less sensitive to stimuli, which in turn can help to prevent and reduce the occurrence of breathlessness and wheezing caused by asthma, bronchitis and other similar disorders. It can also increase lung contractions, which improves the capacity of the lungs to inhale air.
Dosage and Administration
Aminophylline (Aminophylline) is provided in tablet form, and each one contains 100mg of the main ingredient. Factors such as the patient's age, current health and the rate at which they absorb and clear the medicine will need to be carefully considered by the doctor when determining the right dosage. After 3 days, the doctor may decide to titrate the dosage if it is deemed to be well tolerated, followed by another discretional adjustment a further 3 days later. Analysis of the patient's serum level concentration will also be considered by the doctor. Patients must only administer the amount of medicine that their doctor tells them to take.
Side effects
Medical treatment with Aminophylline (Aminophylline) might lead to some side effects, including:
Patients must report all side effects to their doctor in an efficient manner. Although mild side effects are more likely to occur, patients still need to be aware of the risk posed by serious side effects, which have been known to happen in some cases. Get medical help straight away if you notice seizures, vomiting which persists, disturbances in vision or any other serious reactions that have not been listed here.
