Uses
Apo-Azithromycin (Azithromycin Dihydrate) is a macrolide antibiotic which is prescribed as a treatment for many different types of infections, when the infection is caused by bacteria. Conditions that may be treated include chlamydia, gonorrhoea (in certain cases), skin infections, sinusitis, respiratory tract infections, infections of the lungs and elsewhere in the body. Treatment with this medication prevents the bacteria from growing, thereby treating the infection.
Dosage and Administration
Apo-Azithromycin (Azithromycin Dihydrate) comes as tablets, which need to be taken by mouth. A full medical consultation is necessary, so that your doctor can determine whether or not the bacteria responsible for your infection are susceptible to this medicine. Each tablet contains 500mg of the active ingredient. Adults may sometimes be told that the dosage for chlamydia (if it has caused uncomplicated urethritis and cervicitis) is 1g, taken as a single dose. The dosage for pneumonia or any other bacterial infections may be different, and patients must always follow the instructions given by their doctor.
