Uses
Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) is a diuretic medicine used for high blood pressure, heart failure, oedema, renal tubular acidosis, diabetic insipidus and other conditions that have not been listed here. It works by causing an increase in urine production, which in turn helps to prevent excess salt absorption. This medicine may also help to decrease the calcium content of the urine, which could possibly help prevent the occurrence of calcium kidney stones. Reducing salt and water can also help to lower blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of health conditions associated with this condition.

Dosage and Administration
Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) is provided as 25mg tablets for oral administration. The dosage will be determined by your doctor according to the condition that you are treating. Adults affected by oedema may be told to take a dosage ranging from 25mg to 100mg by mouth. The exact amount will be decided upon by your doctor. Nephrocalcinosis patients are sometimes instructed to start with 25mg per day which may be increased to 50mg per day if the doctor deems it necessary. Other conditions may require a different amount of medicine. In all cases, the instructions of your doctor must be strictly followed.

Side effects
Patients treated with Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) might experience side effects, such as:

• Loss of hair
• Feeling thirsty
• Blurring of vision
• Spinning sensation
• Pain that affects the stomach

Precautions

If you perspire or suffer from diarrhoea, the risk of dehydration is increased. Your doctor may advise you to consume a sufficient quantity of fluids in order to prevent dehydration during treatment.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
