BIDURET

Uses
Biduret (Amiloride Hydrochloride/Hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination of two ingredients used to treat high blood pressure, and to prevent and reduce fluid retention (known as oedema and ascites). This medicine contains amiloride, a type of potassium sparing diuretic, as well as hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Diuretics are also referred to as water pills. They work by increasing the amount of unnecessary water and salt released in the urine, which leads to a reduction in blood pressure, and can also effectively treat fluid retention.

Dosage and Administration
Dosages prescribed for patients taking Biduret (Amiloride Hydrochloride/Hydrochlorothiazide) tablets can vary. Patients treating hypertension and congestive heart failure may be instructed to take 1 tablet per day with food. After this, the prescribing doctor may adjust the dosage, and direct the patient to take either 1 to 2 tablets once per day, or else 1 tablet twice per day. If the patient is suffering from certain health conditions, different dosage regimens other than those listed above may be prescribed.

Side effects
Side effects can occur when Biduret (Amiloride Hydrochloride/Hydrochlorothiazide) is taken, and some reactions may be more severe than others. Possible side effects include:

• Gas
• Vertigo
• Weakness
• Urinating frequently
• A reduction in appetite

Inform your doctor of all side effects that occur. Serious side effects may occur, which require immediate medical attention. Examples include muscle cramps, bruising and bleeding, a sore throat, hypoantraemia and hyperkalaemia. This list is not complete, and you are advised to ask your doctor for more information.

Precautions
Patients should note that taking this drug too late in the day (such as before bedtime) could result in them needing to get up repeatedly during the night to urinate. To avoid this, your doctor may direct you to take your last dose at least 4 hours before going to bed.

There is a possibility that taking this medicine will affect your blood potassium levels. Do not take potassium supplements without first talking to your doctor.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Biduret (Amiloride Hydrochloride/Hydrochlorothiazide) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
