Uses
IRBECOR (Irbesartan) is used as a treatment for hypertension. In addition to this, it can be used to treat diabetic nephropathy in patients affected by type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. When used for nephropathy, it may help to decrease the rate at which the condition progresses. The active ingredient in these tablets is known as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It works by helping to widen the blood vessels, which in turn contributes to a decrease in the resistance inside these blood vessels, thereby allowing the blood to flow more easily. This effect is achieved by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a type of hormone in the body which can cause tightening of the blood vessels.

Dosage and Administration
IRBECOR (Irbesartan) is provided as 300mg strength tablets which are administered orally. Adult patients who are being treated for high blood pressure or diabetic neuropathy may be instructed by their doctor to begin with 150mg per day. This may be adjusted at the discretion of the doctor, and the maintenance dosage usually ranges from 150mg to 300mg taken once per day. Patients are generally told that the medicine may be administered either with food or without it. It is likely that your doctor will regularly check your blood pressure. Ensure that you attend all scheduled medical checkups.

Side effects
During treatment with IRBECOR (Irbesartan) tablets, patients may suffer from some side effects, including:

• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Diarrhoea
• Indigestion
• Dizzy sensation

Report all reactions to your doctor. You must immediately consult your doctor if you suffer from reduced urination, a significant decrease in appetite, lower back pain or any other serious side effects which have not been listed here.

Precautions
If you are seated or lying down and you get up too quickly, dizziness may occur. Take your time when getting up so as to avoid this.

This medicine may not work for hypertension due to primary hyperaldosteronism and is generally not recommended for this purpose.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use IRBECOR (Irbesartan) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
