Fluid retention and high blood pressure | Torsemide | Dytor |
Uses
Dytor (Torsemide) is used to remove excess quantities of fluid, which may have been retained by the body in patients suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, heart failure and kidney failure. It is also widely considered to be an effective treatment for high blood pressure.
This drug belongs to a class of medicines known as loop diuretics (sometimes called water tablets). Its mode of action involves causing the body to produce more urine. This results in the removal of unnecessary fluids from the body, thereby relieving symptoms of fluid retention (oedema). The removal of fluid (and salts) from the blood also leads to a reduction in blood pressure, and can provide relief from heart failure symptoms.
Dosage and Administration
See your doctor for a medical assessment before taking Dytor (Torsemide) tablets. This is so the correct dosage can be prescribed for you. If you are taking this medicine for hypertension, your doctor may tell you to take 5mg once per day. The dosage for oedema is usually different, and patients may be instructed to take a dosage consisting of 10mg once per day. Adjustment of the dosage may be necessary in some cases, and the prescribing doctor's instructions must be followed.
