Uses
Dytor (Torsemide) is given as a treatment for oedema (fluid retention). It can provide relief from swelling, breathlessness and other oedema symptoms which may occur in patients affected by liver disease, kidney problems or congestive heart failure. In some cases, doctors may prescribe this medication as a treatment for hypertension (high blood pressure). The active ingredient in this drug is a type of diuretic (more commonly known as a water pill) which works by causing the body to increase its production of urine, thereby helping the body to rid itself of excess water and salt.
Dosage and Administration
Dytor (Torsemide) tablets should be taken by mouth. Consult your doctor before taking it, so that the correct and proper dosage can be prescribed. It is likely that you will be directed to take it once per day. However, you should avoid taking it within 4 hours of going to bed. This is to prevent you having to get up during the night to urinate. Patients taking this drug to treat high blood pressure should note that it can often take 4 to 6 weeks (and in some cases up to 12 weeks) of treatment before the full benefits are noticed.
Side effects
If you are taking Dytor (Torsemide) to treat fluid retention or high blood pressure, it is worth noting that some side effects may occur, such as:
If any of these side effects persist or become more serious, you should consult your doctor. There is also a possibility of more severe side effects occurring. Immediately see your doctor for medical assistance if you notice sudden loss of weight, vomiting up blood, a loss of hearing or any other side effects not listed here.
Precautions
It is important to note that cholestyramine and colestipol may slow down or reduce the body's absorption of this drug. If your doctor has prescribed these drugs to you, he or she may direct you to separate your dose of these drugs from torsemide by 2 hours.
It is worth noting that this drug can reduce the potassium level in your blood. For this reason, your doctor may instruct you to add foods which contain high amounts of potassium to your diet.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Dytor (Torsemide) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
