Uses
Canesten V6 (Clotrimazole) is a broad spectrum antifungal medicine used for treating vaginal candidiasis (yeast infections also known as thrush), including those which are recurrent. It works by acting against the growth of the fungi. Vaginal thrush occurs as a result of a fungus called candida albicans. In general, bacteria present in the body can help to keep this yeast at bay. However, should overgrowth of candida albicans occur (possibly caused by sickness), the occurrence of a yeast infection is possible.
Symptoms which may be indicative of vaginitis include pain (possibly when passing urine), vaginal itchiness, irritation affecting the vagina, pain during sexual intercourse or a discharge. This antifungal medicine's mechanism of action involves blocking the fungi from synthesizing ergosterol, which is required for the production of cell membranes. As a result of this, the fungal cell walls become permeable and vital components of the fungi leak out, leading to the eventual destruction of the fungi.
Dosage and Administration
Canesten V6 (Clotrimazole) comes in the form of pessaries which are inserted directly into the vagina by means of the applicator provided. Each pessary contains 100mg of the active ingredient. Your doctor will decide upon the most effective and appropriate dosage regimen. Adult patients are sometimes told to insert one pessary per day for a period of 6 days. It is also possible that the doctor will recommend a second treatment course to certain patients. In order to ensure that the pessary is fully dissolved, your doctor will recommend inserting it as high as possible. When administering it, it is easier to lie back with their legs upwards.
