Main Use Active Ingredient Marketed Name
Treating patients affected by high blood pressure Lisinopril, Hydrochlorothiazide Cipril H

Uses
Cipril H (Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination medicine administered for high blood pressure. This medicine works by widening the blood vessels and increasing urine production. Usually, doctors treat patients with it when one medicine on its own is not effective at controlling high blood pressure. Lisnopril is an ACE inhibitor, which derives its effects from the inhibition of the angiotensin-converting enzyme.

This in turn leads to a reduction in the amount of aldosterone that is secreted. It may also act in other ways. When taken, it causes the blood vessels to become wider, which contributes to an overall reduction in blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of medicines referred to as thiazide diuretics. It helps the body to excrete more sodium and chloride, and causes more urine to be produced by the body so as to allow for unneeded salt and water to be removed.

The combination of these two ingredients is used to reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension, so as to lower the risk of cardiovascular symptoms, strokes and other serious conditions. However, treatment with this medicine is usually only one part of a complete health management plan, including exercise, healthy diet, control of lipid levels and other measures.

Dosage and Administration
Cipril H (Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide) tablets are meant to be taken by mouth. The dosage will need to be decided by your doctor, based on the antihypertensive response rate and other factors. In some cases, adjustments to the daily dosage may be needed, however this will be at the discretion of your doctor. Blood pressure tests are often required in order to decide whether or not a change in dosage is appropriate. You must not take more than the dosage your doctor determines for you as this could lead to serious reactions.

Side effects
Treatment with Cipril H (Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide) may result in side effects, such as:

  • Coughing
  • Dizziness
  • Mood changes
  • Reduction in sexual function
  • Sweating more than you usually would

Ensure that any side effects you experience are reported to your doctor. Certain reactions can be dangerous, and will require medical treatment immediately. Examples of this include blisters on the skin, fever, urination problems, soreness in the limbs, soreness in the eyes or any other reactions that have not been mentioned here.

Precautions
This medication is not to be taken by women who are pregnant, and it is also necessary to prevent pregnancy while taking it.

It is possible that your doctor will advise you to administer the medicine in the morning instead of at bedtime. This is because it can increase urination and taking it at night could result in increased nighttime urination.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Cipril H (Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
