Hypertension and preventing kidney harm in diabetic patients | Lisinopril | Cipril |
Uses
Cipril (Lisinopril) has a wide range of uses. It can lower blood pressure, treat heart failure and prevent damage to the kidneys in patients with diabetes. Reducing high blood pressure is important, as it helps to prevent strokes, heart attacks and other serious complications. The primary ingredient in these tablets is an ACE inhibitor, and it works by blocking the action of certain enzymes, which causes the blood vessels to widen, thereby triggering a decrease in blood pressure. Another use for this drug is being used to improve the patient's chances of survival after a heart attack.
Dosage and Administration
The dosage of Cipril (Lisinopril) that your doctor will prescribe for you depends on the condition being treated. A typical dose for adults treating hypertension is 10mg per day (prescribed to patients not taking a diuretic). Regular blood pressure tests (as well as possible blood tests) may be required by your doctor, in order to ensure that the prescribed dose is working for you. In some cases, the dosage may be adjusted, and you may be told to take 20mg to 40mg. Some patients have even been told to take 80mg per day, however, this is uncommon. Remember that you should never take more medicine than your doctor has prescribed.
