Uses
Coversyl (Perindopril Erbumine) treats stable coronary artery disease and hypertension by lowering the fluid in the blood vessels and allowing them to widen. This medicine is a pro-drug, and is metabolized into its active metabolite perindoprilat through a process known as hydrolysis. Its antihypertensive benefits are due to it inhibiting the activity of the angiotensin converting enzyme (commonly abbreviated to ACE).
This enzyme is known to contribute to vasoconstriction and narrowing of the blood vessels, a key cause of high blood pressure. Blocking ACE activity prevents constriction of the blood vessels and allows them to become wider. Other effects include a reduction in the secretion of aldosterone, a hormone which is produced in the adrenal gland and can affect blood pressure. This helps reduce water retention (diuresis) and helps to further contribute to the drop in blood pressure.
Dosage and Administration
Coversyl (Perindopril Erbumine) comes in tablet form and each one contains 2mg of the active ingredient. Adults undergoing treatment for coronary artery disease may be instructed by their doctor to take 4mg per day at the start of treatment for a period of two weeks, and it is possible that the doctor may titrate this dosage and direct the patient to administer 8mg once per day.
Patients taking this medicine for diabetic nephropathy, hypertension or congestive heart failure may be instructed to administer 4mg by mouth once per day as an initial dosage, and maintenance treatment may require a dosage which ranges from 4mg to 8mg per day, taken as a single dose or 2 separate doses. The dosage regimen can vary based on individual circumstances, and patients must always comply with the instructions given by their doctor.

This medicine is not suitable for patients suffering from kidney problems which are serious in nature.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
