Uses
Ramipres (Ramipril) provides treatment for high blood pressure by inhibiting ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) so as to relax the arteriole smooth muscle and reduce peripheral resistance. This causes the blood vessels to become wider, and because the blood is able to be pumped through widened arteries, a drop in blood pressure occurs. Use of this drug can also lessen the risk of cardiovascular events and the need for surgery (such as that used for revascularisation). Other uses include treating congestive heart failure, diabetic nephropathy and any disorders deemed necessary by your doctor.
Dosage and Administration
Ramipres (Ramipril) comes in tablet form and each one contains 1.25mg of the active ingredient. Adult patients who are being treated with this medicine and who are also not taking a diuretic (water pill) are often instructed by their doctor to take 2.5mg by mouth, once per day as a starting dosage. Adjustments may take place if the doctor in charge of treatment deems it necessary. For maintenance treatment, the dosage can range from 2.5mg to 20mg per day, given as 1 to 2 separate doses. Other conditions might need a different dosage regimen, and the exact dosage can vary from patient to patient based on individual factors.
