Uses
DeWorm (Mebendazole) is an anthelmintic (a type of medicine that targets and eliminates parasitic worms) which is effective against a wide range of worms, including threadworms, pinworms, whipworms, hookworms and tapeworms, however, it is most commonly prescribed as a treatment for threadworms. This medicine stops the parasites from absorbing the sugars that they need to survive, thereby helping the body to rid itself of the worms, which are passed out in the stools.
Dosage and Administration
DeWorm (Mebendazole) comes as chewable tablets. Ask your doctor about the correct amount to take. In most cases, patients treating threadworm are told to take a single dose, which is usually enough to treat the infection. However, if the infection returns, a second dose may be necessary, 2 weeks after the first. Doctors generally advise that everybody in the same household is treated at the same time, as threadworm infections are easily transmitted between family members.
