Uses
Elocon Lotion (Mometasone Furoate) is used to alleviate the symptoms of inflammatory skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema. It works by reducing itching and inflammation. Patients have also used it directly on lesions affecting the scalp. The active ingredient in this topical lotion is a corticosteroid which is in the medium strength range. It is known to exhibit anti-inflammatory action, and this may be explained by it acting directly on the cells of the skin to reduce the amount of inflammatory substances released. Vasoconstrictive effects are also produced, meaning that the blood vessels become tighter. This will reduce pruritis (itching) and inflammation. Skin disorders which have not adequately responded to treatment with milder forms of corticosteroids are generally treated with this product.
Dosage and Administration
Elocon Lotion (Mometasone Furoate) comes as a 0.1 per cent strength variety, and this means that every gram of the lotion contains 1mg of the active ingredient. Your doctor may tell you to administer a few drops of the lotion each day to the area of skin that is affected. Gently rub the lotion until you see it disappearing. Patients will be advised to withdraw treatment when control of the symptoms occurs. Should the condition show no signs of improvement within 2 weeks, the doctor may need to re-evaluate the condition and diagnosis.
