Uses
Floricot (Fludrocortisone) is a corticosteroid which is similar to a natural substance produced by the body. It is used to treat patients who have low levels of natural steroids, such as Addison's disease, salt-losing adrenogenital syndrome, adrenocortical insufficiency and other conditions that cause too much salt to be lost in the urine. This drug reduces the loss of sodium in the body, which helps to maintain normal blood pressure. In some cases, this medication may be prescribed to treat chronic postural hypotension, which is a specific type of low blood pressure.

Dosage and Administration
If your doctor has prescribed Floricot (Fludrocortisone) to you, he or she will also tell you the correct dosage. In most cases, adult patients are told to take this medication once per day. However, because the dosage prescribed is based on the condition being treated, certain conditions may require different doses. Some patients may be prescribed a dosage schedule which does not require them to take it every day. No matter what dosage schedule your doctor prescribes to you, it is essential that you strictly adhere to it and do not exceed the recommended dosage. When stopping treatment, your doctor will most likely gradually reduce your dosage, so as to prevent withdrawal symptoms.

Side effects
If your doctor has prescribed Floricot (Fludrocortisone) tablets to you, it is recommended that you discuss the risk of side effects associated with this medicine. Possible reactions include:

• An increase in hair growth
• Feeling anxious or depressed
• Lightheadedness or a spinning sensation
• Bruising more easily than usual
• Difficulty sleeping

If any of the side effects mentioned above persist or become more serious in nature, you should tell your doctor. Although most patients who take this drug will not show signs of serious side effects, it is still possible. You must immediately consult your doctor if you notice a cold lasting for a long period of time, tarry stools, weakness affecting the muscles, problems with vision, coughing up blood or any other sudden, severe adverse reactions.

Precautions
Because this drug causes the body to retain sodium while at the same time getting rid of calcium, potassium and other salts, your doctor may provide special dietary instructions for you to follow while taking this drug.

All patients undergoing treatment with this drug are advised to carry a special ID card or to wear a bracelet which clearly mentions the fact that they are taking corticosteroid medication.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Floricot (Fludrocortisone) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
