Uses
Furosemido (Furosemide) (formerly spelled frusemide) belongs to a group of medicines known as loop diuretics. The main uses for this medicine are treating high blood pressure and fluid retention (oedema and pulmonary oedema) in patients affected by conditions such as nephrotic syndrome (a disorder of the kidneys), diseases of the liver or congestive heart failure.
When taken by the patient, this drug increases the amount of sodium and potassium removed from the blood by the kidneys. More water is also filtered into the urine. As a result of this, inflammation due to fluid retention can be reduced.
Dosage and Administration
Adults who have been instructed to take Furosemido (Furosemide) 40mg tablets should closely follow the dosage regimen given by the doctor providing treatment. The dosage for heart failure may be slightly different to the dosage for oedema, and there is also the possibility that individual factors, such as the severity of the patient's condition will need to be taken into account when the doctor is determining the correct dosage. Some patients may be told by their doctor to take it either once per day (usually in the morning) or else twice per day (in the morning and again after midday).
Side effects
Some of the side effects that may occur in adults taking Furosemido (Furosemide) are listed here, such as:
