Uses
Grisovin FP (Griseofulvin) is an antifungal medication which is effective at treating infections caused by fungi occurring in the hair, nails and skin. Conditions treated include tinea capitis (an infection of the scalp), ringworm, athlete's foot and other types of fungal infection. This medicine is commonly used when topical treatments have failed to clear up the infection or are not suitable. It works by binding to a certain protein (called keratin), which prevents the infection from growing. As a result of this, the infection is gradually treated by the body.
Dosage and Administration
Grisovin FP (Griseofulvin) is used for treating many different conditions, and because of this, it is frequently prescribed in different amounts. You have to visit your doctor before you start taking it, so that the proper dosage can be prescribed. Fingernail and toenail infections can sometimes require 1000mg taken per day, in 2 to 4 separate doses. 6 months of treatment may be required for toenail infections. Patients treating tinea capitis may be told to take 500mg per day, divided into 2 doses. However, it is necessary to note that the dosage instructions given here are only meant as a guide, and you must follow the instructions given to you by your doctor.
