Uses
Irovel H (Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination product used to treat high blood pressure. The first active ingredient, Hydrochlorothiazide, is a diuretic (water tablet). It increases urine production, while also increasing the salt removed from the blood. As a result of the decreased amount of fluid in the blood vessels, high blood pressure is lowered. Its other active ingredient, Irbesartan, is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It widens the blood vessels, which also helps to decrease blood pressure. In most cases, this drug is prescribed to patients when one drug cannot effectively control their blood pressure.
Dosage and Administration
Only take the amount of Irovel H (Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide) tablets that your doctor has prescribed to you. You may be advised not to take this drug within 4 hours of going to bed. This is because taking this drug close to bedtime may result in you waking up repeatedly during the night to urinate. Regular visits to your doctor's medical practice may be necessary, so that your doctor can check your blood pressure, and make adjustments to your dosage (if necessary). It can take as long as 4 weeks for the symptoms of high blood pressure to improve. Continue taking this medication unless your doctor tells you not to.
Side effects
Due to the fact that Irovel H (Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide) combines two active ingredients, patients who take it may experience side effects related to either one (or both) of the active ingredients. Examples are listed here:
Serious side effects may also occur. You must seek medical care straight away if you notice dehydration symptoms, eye pain, high potassium levels, fever, abnormal urination or any other side effects which have not been listed here.
Precautions
Patients with problems related to kidney function must have their blood potassium levels and kidney function carefully monitored during the course of treatment with this drug.
