Uses
Loxalate (Escitalopram Oxalate) is used in the treatment of depression, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and other related conditions. This drug is in a class of medicines known as SSRIs (this stands for selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), and it acts on neurotransmitters in the brain (such as serotonin) to treat the emotional symptoms of depression or anxiety, and also increases the energy levels in patients with depression.
Dosage and Administration
Loxalate (Escitalopram Oxalate) comes as 10mg tablets. Adults treating anxiety are sometimes told by their doctor to start out with a dosage of 10mg, taken once per day (either in the morning or evening). This may be increased by the doctor to 20mg per day after 1 week of treatment. Patients treating depression may be told to start out with 10mg per day, which the doctor providing the treatment may increase to 20mg per day after at least 3 weeks of treatment.

Treating depression or other conditions with Loxalate (Escitalopram Oxalate) may cause side effects, such as:
Tell your doctor if you experience side effects during treatment with this medicine. Serious reactions may occur in some patients, and if this happens, medical care will be needed straight away. Examples of this include muscle stiffness, hallucinations, seizures, problems related to memory, difficulty concentrating and other serious side effects which have not been listed here.
Precautions
In some people, especially younger patients, this medication has caused an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. See your doctor immediately if this happens.
It may be necessary to take this medication for a period of 4 weeks or more before an improvement in symptoms can occur. Stopping treatment suddenly could cause withdrawal symptoms, and your doctor may gradually reduce your dosage in order to prevent this.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Loxalate (Escitalopram Oxalate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
