Uses
S Citadep (Escitalopram Oxalate) is used to treat the acute symptoms of major depressive disorder or for management of this condition. It is also indicated for generalised anxiety disorder. This medicine works by potentiating serotonergic activity in the brain. Patients affected by depression suffer from a lack of energy, a persistent dysphoric feeling, a loss of interest in hobbies or normal activities and other symptoms which can seriously disrupt their normal daily lives.
Generalised anxiety disorder is characterised by a persistent feeling of worry, tension and stress. These symptoms are continuous and hard for the patient to keep under control. The active ingredient which is contained in this medicine is categorised as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). After absorption, it works on the central nervous system and inhibits the reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin.
This reduces the amount of neurotransmitters that are reabsorbed, allowing for an increase in serotonin levels. Experts have stated that this can relieve the symptoms of depression and anxiety. It was noted that delayed ejaculation can occur as a side effect, which has attracted the attention of medical researchers who have studied it as a potential treatment for premature ejaculation.
