Uses
Mebucain Mint (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) is used for treating sore throat, oral infections and acute pharyngitis. It helps to relieve pain and inflammation in the mouth and gums. These lozenges are made up of 2 different ingredients, each of which exhibits a different mechanism of action. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic used to relieve pain and it works by numbing the area on which it is applied.
When the lozenges are consumed, the lidocaine helps to relieve acute pain caused by a sore throat by causing numbness of the affected area. Cetylpyridinium chloride is also added for its antiseptic properties. It exhibits antibacterial activity, and is also effective at neutralizing other microorganisms in the mouth. This helps to eliminate bacteria responsible for causing infections. In some cases, these lozenges may be used to treat mouth ulcers or relieve pain after dental surgery.
Dosage and Administration
Mebucain Mint (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) lozenges are placed directly into the mouth and allowed to gradually dissolve. Your doctor will decide the right amount. In some cases, adult patients treating severe infections may be instructed by their doctor to use one lozenge at regular intervals throughout the day, as required. However, ensure that you do not exceed the recommended maximum daily dosage, as doing so could pose a risk to your health.
Side effects
