Uses
Metoral (Metolazone) is widely prescribed to reduce blood pressure in patients affected by hypertension. It achieves this by increasing the amount of urine which is produced by the kidneys. Removal of unneeded water leads to a reduction in blood pressure. Another use for this drug is treating fluid retention occurring in the lungs (pulmonary oedema) or in the legs. This can sometime occur as a result of liver cirrhosis, kidney failure or heart failure.
Dosage and Administration
Dosage regimens for patients taking Metoral (Metolazone) often vary, and will be decided upon by the prescribing doctor. Patients treating high blood pressure are sometimes told to take 2.5mg per day, and those who are using this medicine to treat oedema are often directed to take 5mg per day. Many patients prefer to take their dosage in the morning. This is because an increase in urination can occur after taking this drug, and taking it too soon before bed time may result in night time urination and sleep disturbances.
