Uses
Nexpro (Esomeprazole Magnesium) can be used as a treatment for a variety of conditions related to excess stomach acid production, as well as other related conditions. It is commonly used to treat GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), a condition which causes damage to the oesophagus due to stomach acid flowing backwards from the stomach. This drug can help the oesophagus to heal. Other conditions treated include Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and stomach ulcers. In some cases, patients taking certain medications may be prescribed this drug to help prevent ulcers.

Dosage and Administration
Ask your doctor about the correct dosage before you start taking Nexpro (Esomeprazole Magnesium) tablets. You will probably be told to take it once per day (however, in some cases, this may vary). Take the tablet at least 1 hour before you eat. Remember not to crush or chew the tablet. Instead, you must swallow it whole with a glass of water. Inform your doctor if no improvement in your condition is noticed.

Side effects
While taking Nexpro (Esomeprazole Magnesium) tablets, you may notice some of the following side effects:

• Headaches
• A dry mouth
• Pain in the stomach
• A lack of energy or tiredness
• Gastrointestinal reactions such as diarrhoea

If any of the reactions listed above become serious or persistent, you are advised to tell your doctor. You may also notice more serious side effects. Consult your doctor straight away if you notice muscular spasms, uncontrolled shaking, seizures, signs of fever, bloody diarrhoea or any other severe reactions.

Precautions
Medications such as this one (often referred to as proton pump inhibitors) may increase the risk of bone fractures in a small number of patients. Patients who are taking this drug for an extended period of time (one year more) are most at risk of this. Ask your doctor for more details.

Patients with liver disease or who have suffered from liver disease in the past must tell their doctor before they start taking this medicine.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Nexpro (Esomeprazole Magnesium) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
