Uses
Protecadin OD (Lafutidine) is used to treat different types of stomach ulcers and gastric mucosal lesions caused by gastritis. In addition to this, it may be given before an operation, as a preanaesthatic drug. This medication belongs to a class of drugs called histamine H2 receptor antagonists, and when taken, it helps to reduce the production of stomach acid and prevent inflammation of the stomach mucosa. Another benefit of treatment with this medicine is that it can speed up gastric mucosa reconstitution.
Dosage and Administration
If you are using Protecadin OD (Lafutidine) tablets to treat any of the conditions listed above, you will need to follow the dosage instructions given to you by your doctor. In the majority of cases, adults treating gastric mucosal lesions caused by acute gastritis (or an acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis) are instructed to take 10mg (one tablet), once per day. The dosage should be taken after eating an evening meal.
Patients treating ulcers are often directed to take 10mg twice per day. The first dose is taken after breakfast, followed by a second dose taken after the evening meal is eaten. If this drug is being used as a preanaesthetic medication, patients are usually told to take 10mg before going to sleep on the day prior to the commencement of surgery, and another 10mg is normally administered 2 hours before the anaesthetic is given.
