Uses
Nizoral Shampoo (Ketoconazole) is an antifungal antibiotic shampoo, which is applied to the scalp or skin as a treatment for dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis or a skin condition referred to as pityriasis versicolor. The active ingredient in this shampoo works by stopping the fungi from producing a substance known as ergosterol. Without this substance, the fungal infection is unable to survive, and is eventually destroyed. Medical studies have shown a link with use of this shampoo and prevention of hair loss. Because of this, many man use it for treating baldness.
Dosage and Administration
Nizoral Shampoo (Ketoconazole) is applied directly to the scalp. To apply it, wet the hair and scalp, and apply a sufficient quantity of shampoo. Allow the shampoo to remain on the scalp for 3 to 5 minutes, before rinsing it clean. To treat seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff, it is possible that your doctor will tell you to use it twice per week for 2 to 4 weeks. After the symptoms have been treated, applying the shampoo once every 1 to 2 weeks can prevent a return of symptoms.
