Uses
Norpress (Nortriptyline Hydrochloride) is classified as a tricyclic antidepressant. It acts on the nerve cells and neurotransmitters in the brain. Although it is mainly used to treat depression, its potential effects when used for other conditions have been researched recently. These studies primarily examined its effects when used for smoking cessation, to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain), chronic pain, migraine, chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, panic disorder and other conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Patients using Norpress (Nortriptyline Hydrochloride) tablets to treat depression must only take the amount of medicine that their doctor tells them to take. Adults treating depression are sometimes instructed by a doctor to take a dosage that consists of 25mg to 150mg per day, administered as divided doses. In some cases, the patient may be told to take the entire amount as a single dose. Suddenly stopping treatment can result in withdrawal symptoms, and to avoid this, patients may have their dose gradually reduced by a doctor when stopping treatment.
