Uses
Arrow-Amitriptyline (Amitriptyline Hydrochloride) belongs to a class of medications referred to as TCAs (tricyclic antidepressants). It works by relieving the symptoms of depression and improving the mood, which is achieved by correcting the chemical imbalance in the brain that is thought to be the primary contributing factor to depression. Treatment helps to affect the uptake of noradrenaline and serotonin in both the serotonergic and the adrenergic neurons in the central nervous system.
Experts believe that this may help to potentiate the neuronal activity in the brain, thereby extending the positive effects of noradrenaline and serotonin on the mood. Symptoms such as a lack of enjoyment in life, reduced appetite, sleep problems, low libido, guilt and other negative emotions may be relieved due to treatment. In some cases, doctors have used this medicine to treat patients affected by neuralgia (nerve pain) caused by diabetes, injuries or other conditions. Certain patients have even used it for the prevention of migraine.
Dosage and Administration
Arrow-Amitriptyline (Amitriptyline Hydrochloride) tablets are taken by mouth. However, patients will need to exercise strict compliance with the dosage instructions provided by the doctor in charge of treatment. Generally speaking, doctors may direct patients treating depression to take 75mg per day (as divided doses). In some cases, the doctor responsible for the patient may increase the dosage to 150mg per day, however this will not be required in every case and patients must never adjust their dosage unless told to do so by their doctor. Other conditions may be treated with a different dosage regimen.
