Uses
Arrow-Amitriptyline (Amitriptyline Hydrochloride) is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) and it treats depression by working on neurotransmitters in the central nervous system. Serotonin and noradrenaline are both released in the nerve cells of the brain, and they have a positive effect on the emotions. Experts have suggested a link between low levels of serotonin and noradrenaline being released in the brain and depression.
This medicine's mechanism of action involves stopping the process in which serotonin and noradrenaline are reabsorbed by the brain's nerve cells, thereby increasing the duration of their positive effects on the mood. It may also have sedative properties, and for this reason, doctors may use it to treat patients who are suffering from anxiety and agitation associated with depression. Patients have also taken it for other disorders, including migraine prophylaxis, dysthymia, pain, neuralgia, post traumatic stress disorder and other conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Arrow-Amitriptyline (Amitriptyline Hydrochloride) comes in tablet form, and is administered orally. The dosage will be carefully calculated by your doctor, with individual factors being taken into account. In some cases, doctors may direct adult patients treating depression to take from 25mg to 100mg per day as 3 to 4 separate doses. As an alternative to this, the patient may be instructed to take 50mg to 100mg as a single daily dosage, administered before going to bed. The dosage may then be adjusted and possibly reduced at the discretion of the doctor, based on how the patient responds to treatment. Other conditions may need a different dosage regimen and you must strictly comply with all instructions given by your doctor.
